We are extremely lucky to stand with a city like Barcelona that demonstrates increasing commitment to the city’s sustainability year after year. One of the ways it expresses this is through commitment and motivation to make bike riding a standard means of transportation within the city. We are very happy to have increasingly more amenities available for sustainable activities: there are more than 1,000 kilometers of road that are particularly appropriate for bicycle traffic scattered throughout 30 km/h zones, peaceful streets and bicycle lanes which, as explained in in this article from the Barcelona City Council, have increased by 72% over the past 3 years.

Obviously using a bicycle as a means of getting around the big city or its metropolitan areas has a lot of benefits! Besides contributing to the reduction of gas emissions entering the atmosphere, it also has great benefits both personally and health-wise:

It provides major economic savings.

By using a bicycle you’re helping to save the environment.

Riding a bicycle helps lower stress levels.

It also strengthens and tones your body.

It boosts your immune system.

It gives you the opportunity to discover unique places.

Where can you travel by bicycle?

On the interactive map below (you can also download it as a PDF), you can see all of the bicycle lanes in the city of Barcelona. But not only that. If you activate other map options, you’ll be able to see the bicycle lanes that are currently under construction, Ronda Verde bike loops, 30 km/h zones, bike-friendly roads, bike racks, and even parking lots that have spaces for bicycles! Isn’t it a fantastic tool? So grab a bike and head out into the streets of Barcelona!

We would also like to remind you that here at Centre Esplai Hostel we offer bike rental services in case you’d prefer to go for a ride through the Llobregat Delta and do some birdwatching!

We would also like to give you a few directions so you’ll know the rules when it comes time to go biking around Barcelona. It’s very important to follow these rules so as to guarantee safety when you’re in the city.

We know that if you come to visit Barcelona, your bicycle probably won’t be your only means of transportation. That’s why we’ve prepared a complete guide to Barcelona public transportation for you. This way you can check out which type of transportation would be the most convenient for you based on your itinerary.
