We know that Barcelona and its metropolitan area is one of your favorite destinations. Yeah! It is a very beautiful city and its surroundings that have many tourist attractions, activities of different types, museums, etc. But before we start creating plans, do you know where Barcelona Airport is? Have you ever been? Do you know how to get there?
Barcelona Airport is actually called Josep Tarradellas Barcelona – El Prat Airport and is located, as its name suggests, in the city of El Prat de Llobregat. This is a city located in the metropolitan area of Barcelona (10km from Barcelona city) and therefore you have to consider how you will get in and out of the airport when you want to travel!
On this map you can see the exact location of Josep Tarradellas Barcelona – El Prat Airport!
By Train
To get to Barcelona Airport by train from Barcelona, you have to take the R2 North line. This line passes through basic and very important stops in Barcelona, such as Passeig de Gràcia, Sants Station, Estació de França, etc. This suburban line runs every 30 minutes, so there are plenty of them all day long!
It is worth mentioning that the Airport stop of this commuter train line will drop you off at Terminal 2 – which is the oldest terminal -. However, there is no loss if you have to go to terminal 1: you will find a well-signposted walkway.
By Subway
There is a relatively new subway connection between the airport and the city of Barcelona, and this makes the journey much easier! In 2016, the L9 South line was inaugurated, which runs through much of Barcelona, Hospitalet de Llobregat, El Prat de Llobregat and, of course, reaches Barcelona Airport. In addition, it has two different stops inside the airport, depending on whether you have to go: to terminal 1 or 2.
Tip: From the Centre Esplai Hostel we have it even easier to get there by subway, there are only 3 stops, Parc Nou – Mas Blau – Airport T2 / AT1!
By Bus
On the one hand, you can choose to take the Barcelona Aerobus, a bus that takes you to El Prat Airport from Plaça Catalunya, passing by Plaça Universitat and Plaça Espanya. It’s a very simple option! It is important, however, that you select the bus ticket on its own website to book your seat.
On the other hand, there is another option that you can consider if you want to go by bus to the airport. Within the Barcelona Metropolitan Transport Network there is the bus line 46. This line starts in Plaza España, but has many more stops than the Aerobus we mentioned earlier: it has stops on Gran Via, Plaza Europa and Bellvitge Hospital, among others.
Did you know that right next to Barcelona Airport there is a viewpoint where you can see the planes passing over you? It is amazing! If you have a while before leaving Barcelona or arriving, you can’t miss it!
